Thomas Chapman is a professional architect and urban designer with 10 years experience working in both the public and private built environment sector. Joshua Wilson is a highly-experienced architectural technologist who manages the output of technical documentation on our projects. Joshua comes with over 8 years of experience working in the industrial building and luxury housing sectors. Joshua boasts a significant knowledge of architectural detailing as well as the SAN S204 national legislation on energy efficiency in buildings.

Samantha Trask is a qualified architect who forms part of the design and documentation team. Samantha earned her postgraduate degree at the University of Johannesburg, conducting her thesis on the relationships between formal and informal development in the City of Johannesburg. Samantha’s professional experience prior to joining Local Studio included several educational projects for the Department of Public Works under Bharat Trikam Architects.
Shawn Constant is an experienced community liaison officer (CLO ) and council runner born and raised in Westbury, Johannesburg. Shawn brings significant experience in managing community development processes in Johannesburg, having overseen community engagement of several public projects in the last 5 years. Shawn’s corporate background is as a trade unionist working for the Massmart group.

Crystal’s aim is to implement responsible architecture that addresses local needs, aiming to create projects that will catalyze healthy community development through exceptional design - design that is not only beautiful, but that also empowers cultures, stimulates economies, and enhances environments. Having lived, worked and engaged with communities on 5 continents, she has a passion for global architecture, travel and new experiences, and is delighted to be pursuing her ambitions

Daniel is an architecture masters graduate from the University of Witwatersrand. Prior to joining Local Studio in 2016, Daniel spent two years working with Lewis Levin on the Holocaust and Genocide Centre in Forest Town, Johannesburg, with a particular focus on steel detailing and fabrication. Daniel’s passion for social infrastructure manifests into an exploration and crafting of an architecture that assists in the immediate upliftment of previously disadvantaged communities, with a consideration for the intricate frameworks that those buildings exist in and how it can extend its capacity to facilitate.

Alexia has an affinity for experience-driven architecture that explores and understands our context’s cultural systems. This interest has influenced her aim to understand our current built fabric, its history, people, conditions, and future. These phenomena are deeply relevant to any spatial designer’s role as a facilitator of social and urban infrastructure.

Charnelle has a great passion for urban networks and the significance of the public realm in shaping communities and cities. She focuses on integrating policy and design to create sustainable developments that address social needs and inequalities. She graduated with honours in Urban and Regional Planning in 2014 and is currently working as an Urban Design intern at Local Studio and studying towards a Masters of Urban Design degree.

Garret has completed his BSc (Arch) at the University of Pretoria and is currently working to gain practical experience in the industry. He is particularly interested in learning how to create architecture that connects people and allows space for a sense of community. These principles are applied to and tested against
the social spatial contexts of projects to ensure realistic benefit. His position at Local Studio has given him experience in various scaled projects at various stages.
