The story of Sophiatown is familiar to many but what often goes untold is the current process of re-imagining and remaking that has occurred in the neighbourhood since 1994.
We talk to architect and urban designer, Thomas Chapman, about the development taking place in the area.Thomas has long been researching the history of this famous neighbourhood and is now fortunate to be part of the rebuilding. He will remind us of the wonderful cultures, people and buildings that were lost. We will talk about the legacy of Father Trevor Huddleston but also the real triumphs of the last twenty years that have emerged out of those not-so-distant ashes.
Join Alex Parker and Thomas Chapman on Heritage Today for a discussion about what heritage means for today.
